Vinton Public Library to hold Winter party December 29th

The Vinton Public Library is having a Winter Party on Monday, December 29th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.  Participants will watch a movie, play some games, do some crafts and best of all lunch will be served. Presbyterian Church to provide Christmas Dinner

The Presbyterian Church of Vinton, 608 1st Avenue, \will be providing a free Christmas Dinner on Thursday, Dec. 25 from 12:00 p.m. - to 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This event will be open to the public. There are many people who are alone on Christmas Day, and in the spirit of Christian love, the church will be providing a home-style meal for them.

If you fancy Fancy Nancy come to Center Point Friends Tea Party

It’s Fancy Nancy redux (that’s fancy for bringing it back) for the Center Point Friends of the Library. Friends is planning another fund raising tea party based on the “Fancy Nancy” children’s books by Jane O’Connor. (The last one was in 2011.) Tobin's Tales: Slide show to feature stories from historic judge Tuesday

On, Tuesday, December 16, from 6:30-8 p.m., the Benton County Conservation Board will Present "Tobin’s Tales" at the Nature Center. Enjoy an evening of historical storytelling. Prior to his passing at age 94, Judge John Tobin of Vinton, created a slide-show about the legend of Unga-Chuk and Nes-swe-nep-pe. Participants will enjoy hearing Judge Tobin’s voice, coinciding with a slide show, as he relives the story as it was told to him so many years ago.

'Wreaths Across America' to adorn Mt. Auburn veterans' graves Saturday

Saturday, Dec. 13 is Wreaths Across America Day at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m.   This is the day that every veteran in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery will have a fresh, handmade wreath placed on his or her grave to recognize that they provided service to our country.   "This is the way we can thank those veterans that have gone before us and we will also recognize and thank Veterans who remain with us today," said Ruth Coots Intlekofer, Location Coordinator.

Post Prom Cookie Walk set for Dec. 13

The VS Post Prom Committee Cookie Walk takes place on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the VSHS commons. Cost is $5 per pound. All proceeds will go toward 2015 Post-Prom activities. See the flyer HERE. 

Mobile Food Pantry this Saturday

This Saturday, December 13, the Mobile Food Pantry Day will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. at the HACAP food site. Thanks to friends at Happy TIme and Wesley United Methodist Church we will have lots of food. If you know of anyone in need of food assistance please contact them. If they cannot be there, someone can pick the food up on their behalf, or delivery can be arranged.

Area Students share the Christmas spirit in concert

Concordia University, Nebraska celebrated the Christmas season with its annual Christmas at Concordia concerts Dec. 5-7 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Christmas at Concordia weekend also included the 20th annual Scholarship Parade of Homes and a community reception. Students participating in the concerts include: Wesly Williams, a senior from Vinton, Iowa, Bass I in Male Chorus Morgan Eggert, a freshman from Atkins, Iowa, Alto II in Women's Chorale Kenzie Woltemath, a junior from Atkins, Iowa, Alto I in Women's Chorale "The concerts have been a cherished tradition for decades," said Concordia Director of University and Alumni Relations Adam Hengeveld.
